Gm Tigers, in the latest session of our Twitter spaces, we invited our friends from Salad Ventures, DappRadar, and CropBytes to discuss their respective innovative projects and what this year will be like for Web3 gaming. Don’t worry if you missed the conversation, though; we've got some of the best insights for you right here.

But first up, introductions.

Wesley (Salad Ventures): Wesley used to be in the event space for at least a decade. During the pandemic, Wesley, the co-founder, introduced him to the play-to-earn ecosystem and Axie Infinity. He fell down the rabbit hole and eventually started a guild that became really successful.

Sheryl (CropBytes): Sheryl is the co-founder and CMO of CropBytes, a Web3 farming simulator game. CropBytes started back in 2018, which makes it one of the original play-to-earn titles of the game. Despite the market downturn, the game is still going strong because of its awesome community.

Sara (DappRadar): Sara has been working with Dappradar as a blockchain analyst for the last six months. DappRadar is one of the leading data aggregators in Web3. They collate data on more than 12000 dApps across 50 blockchains.

The Growth of Web3 Gaming

Web3 gaming has seen massive growth in recent years, becoming a global phenomenon that's attracting a lot of attention from gamers around the world. The industry has come a long way, and the world of on-chain gaming has been revolutionized by pioneers like Axie Infinity and Alien Worlds. These games attracted players through their innovative tokenomics models, but Sara tells us that it’s time that Web3 games now focus more on gameplay than their tokenomic models.

The Web3 Gaming Report by DappRadar

DappRadar, one of the leading data aggregators in the Web3 industry, has just released the 2022 gaming report. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the Web3 gaming ecosystem and the progress it has made in the last year. DappRadar collates data on more than 12000 dApps across 50 blockchains, and the report highlights some of the key trends and insights from the industry.

Here are some straight facts from DappRadar’s 2022 report on Web3 gaming.

  • Gaming accounts for nearly 50% of all blockchain activity in the Web3 industry.
  • In 2022, there were nearly 1.13 million active wallets connected to Web3 games.
  • WAX was the most popular blockchain when it came to Web3 games.
  • Alien Worlds was one of the most played dApps in 2022, and their DAO system is likely to be revolutionary for the industry.

The Rise of Mobile Web3 Gaming

Another trend in the web-based gaming industry is the rise of mobile games. As the technology evolves and becomes more accessible, it's likely that we'll see more players accessing Web3 games on their mobile devices. This will be a game-changer for the industry, as it will make Web-3 gaming more accessible to a wider audience.

The Simplification of Onboarding for Web3 Games

One of the key challenges for the web-based gaming industry is the process of onboarding new players. Currently, web3 games require their players to jump through various hoops, which just alienates many players from traditional games. Cropbytes is a farming simulator game that has kept things really simple from the beginning. They are centralized at the moment so that they can onboard and engage players easily, and this is a good example of how the industry needs to simplify the onboarding process to make Web3 gaming more accessible to everyone.

G3M NFT Series by Salad Ventures

Salad Ventures has recently unveiled its G3M NFT series, which is the highest-minted project on the Galxe. This is an exciting new initiative in the Web3 gaming industry, and it provides players with the opportunity to earn some exciting financial rewards. The NFT series is a great example of how the industry is evolving, and it's an exciting time for players to get involved.

Building a strong community

A bull or bear market doesn't matter if you have managed to nurture a strong community. When the members feel an emotional connection with the project, they don't leave when the prices go down. This is a critical aspect of the Web.

The Future of Web3 Gaming

2022 was the year of the alphas when it came to web3 gaming. 2023 will be the year when we get to play some of the most hyped titles, such as Big Time, Illuvium, and Mirandus. Another trend that is set to rise is the increasing popularity of mobile Web3 games. As technology continues to improve and more people get onboard with blockchain technology, it's exciting to see what the future holds for the world of Web3 gaming.

In Closing

As you can see, leading experts from the industry are quite optimistic about the future of web-based gaming. We have said it time and again that if technology is an improvement over the existing system, then it will eventually be adopted by the masses. Web3 technology is still quite early and raw, but we know that it’s going to get better and better with time. Stay tuned for more such insights, and show our experts some love on their socials. See ya in the next one!
